On Spetses the "Spring Classic Car Rally"

For the third year running, the elegance of classic cars came to Spetses. The Poseidonion Grand Hotel, in collaboration with FILPA (Greek Federation of  Old Car Lovers) once again played host to a plethora of beauties.

The Spring Classic Car Rally, this year upgraded to a first category event by FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens), brought a spectacular sight to the island, with the vintage cars parading the streets of a Spetses now waking from its quiet winter into glorious springtime. On the occasion of this year’s upgrade, the rally took place in the presence of an official observer representing FIVA.

As every year, the classic cars followed the specially-designated route from the Corinth Canal to the harbour of Costa. The valuable antiques were then transported from the mainland on the local ferry boat, which made several trips to accommodate the one hundred cars and their crews. Upon arrival on the island they took their places in the Poseidonion square, creating a fabulous display against the magnificent backdrop of the Poseidonion Grand Hotel, evoking memories of the fine aesthetics of yesteryear.

On the second day, the crews toured the road which circumnavigates the coast of Spetses, blending with the architecture and horse-drawn carriages of the island, creating many wonderful images for those who had gathered to cheer their progress.

Spectators this year were rewarded with the chance to admire up close a wide variety of top classic car names, including Cadillac, Bentley, Porsche, Jaguar, Maserati and many others, each and every one the pride and joy of  its owners.
